Thankful for Parkinson’s this Thanksgiving?

What are you thankful for?
This is the time of year I spend time thinking about things for which I am thankful. There are many that come to mind easily such as my family, my job, my friends and my health.

But would it be outrageous to say I am thankful for Parkinson’s Disease? I am thankful for the way Bob is dealing with it. It has changed his personality for the better. It has made him more emotional which in turn has made him a more compassionate individual. Since he started a support group, he understands the value of sharing his journey with others. Feeling isolated is frightening and suffering from a disease alone is even more terrifying. I see the friendships and devotion the members of the support group share. The contacts Bob has made through Facebook and the Team Fox mentor group gives him active help and encouragement. Bob makes himself available to comfort someone who may be newly diagnosed, chats with fellow patients about the latest research on PD or just shares a good laugh about embarrassing or challenging events.

Bob has a new purpose in life, which Parkinson’s Disease has given him. PD has taken things away from him, but he doesn’t let PD define him. I am very proud of him and so thankful he is my husband.
